North Howrah drainage work begins after Railway nod causing years of monsoon flooding

The Howrah Municipal Corporation has started drainage repair work in North Howrah after receiving official permission from the Railways. The work is taking place on railway land where an old municipal drainage line had been blocked during the Railways’ pipeline installation. This blockage had led to severe waterlogging in areas like Bamungachhi, C Road, B Road, Belgachia, and Liluah Station Road during every monsoon season.

According to officials, the drainage correction is underway across four culvert zones. The initiative follows multiple complaints submitted over the years by residents, after which the Railways granted the required clearance. The civic body is now working to reopen the covered drainage system to restore water flow and prevent further flooding.

North Howrah MLA Gautam Chaudhuri and municipal officials are overseeing the ongoing repair work on-site. Local residents and guardians of school students have expressed relief as the area often faced accessibility issues due to repeated waterlogging during rains.
